My name, Gail, means joy. My deepest desire is to brighten the world and share that heart-centered joy through the things I create.
Most of my work is collage, made using painted paste paper — a process I like to call “finger paint for grown-ups.” Creating paste paper is deeply playful. It invites us to create like a child, entirely free of remorse or repression. I find the process of selecting paper, cutting and pasting deeply satisfying, even though, at the end of the day, my studio is buried in paper!
My art is a direct reflection of the world around me, shaped by both profound human struggles and transcendent spiritual hope. Currently, I focus my work on two urgent social realities: the aftermath of gun violence and the plight of our migrant farm workers. Through visual storytelling, I aim to bear witness to their stories and spark necessary conversations about compassion, empathy, and justice.
At the heart of my practice are biblical themes that express my unwavering belief in the grace and unconditional love of the Divine Creator. This faith is my foundation: if we are truly made in the Creator’s image, then we are all inherently creators too.
What a remarkable thought! Because creativity is a shared human birthright, I invite you to create something yourself today and experience the profound joy of making.
